Several telling pieces from Japan’s Edo era, traditions and innovations at the Museum of Civilization Japan Tradition Innovation Exhibition!

Here we have a manga drawing by Rumiko Takahashi which inspired the Inu Yasha television series and ran for several years between 2000 and 2010. Such great looks, creativity and action figures !

There are plenty of manga comics to see, peruse or read in one area of the exhibit, for all ages !!

Be sure to see the evolution of innovative robots at the Museum of Civilization Japan Tradition Innovation Exhibition! The Museum faces Parliament across the Ottawa River. The Exhibit opened Friday, May 20, 2011 and runs (at times with Asimo) until October 10, 2011

If you are in Ottawa or Gatineau on Thursday, June 2, 2011, be sure to hear the Canadian Museum of Civilization Curator, Alan Elder tell some some amazing stories regarding the Japan Innovation Tradition Exhibit, as he plans to give a curatorial tour on that Thursday, June 2, 2011

Subaru and Toshiba organizations also sponsored this highly collaborative Japan Exhibit of the Museum.

Question by Lovely A.: How can I join Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority while attending a community college and in a transfer program?
Hi,

Per the national website “A woman may be admitted for membership in an undergraduate chapter only while in attendance at a four-year accredited college or university, or in a liberal arts/transfer program of a junior or community college, once they submit proof of intention to enter and obtain a degree from a four-year school.”

How would one join while attending a community college, and what would be consider the proof?

Thanks in advance.

Best answer:

Answer by TCB
You’d have to be enrolled in a program that requires students to transfer to a four year school in order to complete their degree, so you can’t simply be in any program at your junior or community college. The proof is that you can show that you are enrolled in such a program at your school; your Registrars office or department should be able to help you with this. Also, even if you are in such a program it may or may not be possible. A lot depends on the advising alumnae chapter. IF you are enrolled in such a program as described above, find the nearest alumnae chapter to your school and contact them. You may just have to transfer to a four year school first where there is an active chapter and then pursue membership or you could wait until after you graduate with your BA. and then pursue membership in an alumnae chapter where you reside. Either way, in the meantime, focus on getting good grades, do community service (and not just because you want to join the sorority but because you feel good about giving back), research the organization well, and meet current members. You can do this by attending Sigma functions at other schools that have active chapters. You can even attend an informal interest meeting or informational at another school even though you can’t pursue membership there. Also, remember that the members select who they feel are right for their organization so nothing is promised even if you pursue membership. Make sure you exceed the basic requirements. Good Luck!

Question by Climb: How good do I have to be to get into an art institute? Will they actually reject me if I’m not outstanding?
I am decent at drawing. I am thinking of going to an art institute. I know you have to submit a portfolio. I am wondering if they ever look at someone’s portfolio and say “Uh, you’re not good enough.”

Best answer:

Answer by dags
I’m sure they do reject some.

Art institutes have rejected some quite famous people over the years. For example, in Vienna they rejected Hitler, who incidentally was quite a good artist, by most people’s standards. One wonders if he had been accepted whether his life would have been channeled along a different path, and the World would have been spared the horrors of WW2.

If you scroll down the page , there are some of his works on the left hand side.

Question by Koto51: Do you think that sonic adventure will be remade for the Nintendo 3ds?
I mean, it seems like a possibility since Sonic Team and Sega have both partnered with Nintendo now. Sonic generations is going to be awesome, but I would really love to see sonic adventure 1 and 2 make an appearance on this new system. I do believe it would be possible, due to the unvailing of the new super mario world and ocarina of time for the 3ds, but will it happen?

Best answer:

Answer by I’m just that guy™
I hope!
I still have Sonic Adventure Battle 2 on the gamecube.
And it’ll be awesome if they remade it onto the 3DS!
I could create my chao and race it with other people throughout the world with WIFI!

Art School

Question by hrvatsam: How boring are liberal arts schools?
Ok so I’m a junior in high school and I really want to pursue a career in the medical field (not exactly sure what I want to specialize in yet, but I perhaps want a degree in epidemiology, genetics, or neurology). I go to a small private high school (about 70 per class) and we have, of course, a strong liberal arts curriculum and I have to take four years of English, History, etc. I am honestly finding it boring as I am losing motivation for any classes that I’m not specifically interested in. I dread going to classes like history, which I pretty much just remember information for just until the test and then forget (along with most other people I know in my class..) Now to my point: my college counselor is suggesting a ton of “small liberal arts schools” like Pomona. Considering the fact that high school, especially mine, is centered on liberal arts… and the fact that I’m used to the “small school” atmosphere – will I get bored with it? I honestly would like a lot of opportunity to explore my field of interest – specifically, biological sciences and foreign language. I feel like liberal arts schools would restrict me and I would not get much out of the other subjects. I honestly do not see the point in the whole “well-roundedness” that they stand for, can someone please clarify? Am I completely misunderstood and should look further into them? Are Liberal Arts colleges definitely not for me? Would it be high school all over again for me? Please let me know! Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by ownpool
Almost all colleges and universities require all students to take two years of general education classes which are distributed over the subjects studied in high school. However, at college or university, students can often substitute comparative literature for English, Asian history for European History, take a new foreign language etc. At a school as difficult as Pomona you will not be bored if you like an academic challenge.

Epidemiology is usually studied in graduate school and neurology is studied in a residency after medical school. You may want to consider a large university where you can major in genetics as an undergraduate, but you will still have to take the general education classes unless you go to Brown or one of the few other universities that do not require them. If you go to Stanford, Berkeley, or UCLA, you will still have to take the general education classes. The best liberal arts colleges, such as Pomona, are as excellent for science as for arts and humanities.

I want to get into “The School Of Art Institute Of Chicago” but im only begining highschool so how do i get ready?

Best answer:

Answer by Lewis A
start getting pieces for your porfolio, Contact the Art institute and have them send you whatever paperwork they can. They will ALWAYS tell you what the are looking for in a portfolio, and also other requirements to get accepted. Than ask any art teacher in your school to help you build a strong portfolio. I’m sure they will be more than willing to help you.

I’m pretty certain UTZ invented the anime style of drawing sometime in the late 1800s.

This is a poorly and quickly executed parody of the UTZ Girl and one of the characters from the anime Air Gear.

Question by Emily: What supplies ( and their brands ) would you suggest to draw anime?
I’m getting into the hobby of drawing anime! Actually, I’ve been at it for a while, and am proud to say, I’m starting to get good. Not great, but good. I’m through with the pencil and notepad, and wanna take a step up.

I know I want to get a pen pad, and some charcoal and faber castell pencils, maybe even water colour paints. What do you suggest? Also, what are their brands? ( If you know, of course. )

Thankyou! :)

Question by : how much money would you make as a wedding photographer?
and how much “schooling” would you have to go through?

Best answer:

Answer by ωє∂иєѕ∂αу мσяиιиg
Many photographers don’t earn their primary living from it- there are lots of expenses; especially with digital, where you have to replace your cameras every few years. Studio space, make-up artists, lighting and other equipment, software etc. Don’t forget that models don’t generally work for free, so until you’re established and have clients, you’ll be spending money to build your portfolio. Even on TFCD shoots, you’ll have expenses.

For each lucky papparazzi that sold a photo to some celebrity magazine for $ 50k, there are literally thousands who made nothing, but spent the same amount of time camped out and driving around following celebs, looking for that one shot of Britney or Angelina’s new baby.

Sure there’s money in weddings, but it’s a tough business.
___________

If you cannot get a scholarship to a college that teaches photography, you may want to work as an assistant to a professional photographer … you will have to have some skills as a photographer though. Most of your job will include doing most of the “grunt” work for the photographer both in the studio and on location.

During this time, you can start to build your camera system and what that consists of, will have much to do with the expertise you gain while learning and working with the pro.

This internship/apprenticeship can take five years or longer before you will be able to go out on your own, because you will not just be learning how to set up shots, use cameras and working with models and clients, but the art of doing business on a day to day basis, including looking for new clients, packaging image files requested by clients or agencies, making invoices, maintaining equipment and maintaining the image libraries.
