Question by Brandi Estes: What is special effects make up under in college?
I’m planning on my college, and really want to do special effects. I live in Ohio, and would love to find one close. The only one I know about is the Art Institute of Pittsburgh under Entertainment design. Is there anywhere in Ohio that offers it?
And don’t tell me to get a real job, hence special effects/art is my life. It’s my dream, don’t bust it. It isn’t the only thing I’m going to college for anyways. Kay, thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by PE2008
Art Institute of Pittsburgh is a worthless for-profit school — one of a chain of similar worthless school throughout the USA.

Get a real education in a real college. Do not waste your time and money on “Art Institute” or “Special Effects”.

Sonic, at work in GameWorks. Surprised, ever so slightly. :)

Question by G B: Would you suck if you like the old sonic the hedgehog from the Sega Genisis?
I don’t mean like the sonic today (because sonic sucks now), i hate the sonic today. But would you suck if you liked the first sonic games from the Sega genesis? You see, my friend, Michael hates the sonic today a lot, but he seems to like the old sonic from the Sega genesis. Does that mean he sucks?

Question by Kmi: I draw anime on pencil, but want to start on computer?
Well, yeah i am kind off good at drawing anime on pencil, But i’ve never tried on computer, i’ve seen many Beautiful drawings made on computer with photoshop, and something called a tablet, i want to learn to draw like this, i am wondering, WHAT photoshop should i get? Or how to use/where to buy a tablet? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Anon Ymous
You don’t have to buy a tablet, and you don’t have to buy photoshop. I do all of my work with pencil and pen, scan it with my scanner and work on it on my computer with a photoshop clone called gimp. It’s free. There are lots of tutorials online for helping you along the way and of course you can ask here if you get stuck.

everything @ drawmeat.com started with pen and was edited using gimp. (my website)

Question by Melissa: Replacing a traditional art portfolio with a tablet?
I’m an Illustrator/Graphic Designer/Web Designer/Photographer. I have a contract job that stops in a few months and I’m dreading going out there and finding a job in my field because it’s quite difficult these days. I’d like to step up my portfolio presentation a bit with a tablet. Not an expensive one like an iPad but one with a nice screen and allow me to do slideshows. (Powerpoint, Lightroom, or even Flash but I know that’s probably not possible). The main question is, I have a traditional hard cover portfolio(s), do you think someone who wants to look at my portfolio will prefer “the old school” way of doing things? Or perhaps they’d be more impressed? I’d love some real professional opinions whether they are artists, hiring managers, and just other points of view. Also, what would be a good choice of tablet that would suit my needs that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

Best answer:

Answer by Nomi
This is a great question. My husband is a user experience designer and I know he’d have an opinion on this, but, unfortunately, I cannot reach him now. However, my feeling from interviews he’s had over the past couple of years is that the old school way, as you call it, is probably still preferred even when younger people are interviewing you. There are still certain advantages to paper. Plus…well, this could go either way, but it could seem too slick to have your portfolio on a tablet only.

Are you on twitter? I know when my husband has a question like this, he asks his designer contacts on there and gets some good answers sometimes.

But, either way, in the end it’s you and the work that count, of course. I wouldn’t go crazy over a decision like this.

Question by sevenofus: What are the best, not-to-be-missed, things to see and do in Chicago?
We are taking a 3 generational “girl” trip to Chicago April 4-7. My mom (68), my 3 daughters (26, 21 and 8 – nope, not a typo! – daughter #3 was a BIG delightful surprise!!), and I (47) have never been to Chicago. We are looking for some suggestions as to what are the best things for first time visitors to see and do in Chicago. Also, any hints and tips for getting around in “the big city” – we are from “small-town” Michigan. Thanks for any family friendly ideas you have.

Question by star83_4mc: What is a comparable PS3 game to mario kart?
I’m looking for a game like Mario Kart Wii
I know of two games for PS3:
Dreamworks Madagascar Kartz , &
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
1) which is better?
or 2) is there a better one I don’t know about?
i just watched a few trailers for ModNation Racers. It’s not something I’m interested in. I didn’t like little Big Planet.

Nothing can compare to Mario Kart Wii but if there is modnation racers looks like a fun game.

And more two withou copying:

Thanks zakunai, but i alredy saw Manga university and they dont teach how to draw a face looking up and a body i movement.

Best answer:

Answer by Zakunai
Practice makes perfect? Really, I used to copy the drawings from my favourite manga all the time, then I developed my own style over the years. Your drawings look good already, keep it up :)

If you want tutorials you can search Youtube with keywords like “markcrilley” (he gives good tutorials) or google for Manga University and click the tab on How to Draw Manga there, I think the provide links to Youtube too.

I hope this helps =D
