Question by Mew Cocoa: Sky Girls Sonic Driver Cosplay???
I’m cosplaying Otoha and her Sonic Driver Reijin, and i’m using stilts and blueboard for the bottom half, i know i’m using blueboard for the whole shell of the cosplay, but i don’t know what kind of support to use to make the torso part of the mecha and up. I was thinking an army pack with aluminum bars to build around, but it needs to be light, seeing how i’m on stilts

here’s a pic of the Sonic Driver and Otoha who drives it-

and here’s a pic of just the sonic driver-

thanks!!!
forgot to mention that they are dry wall stilts

Best answer:

Answer by thejanith
A pack with aluminum bars will be light. They get heav y when stuffed with three weeks’ worth of survival gear. Just the pack will be pretty light. Make sure your stilts are cleared for the weight of you in your costume. This one looks like a lot of fun to build and to wear.

Question by Amber: How to easily start drawing anime?
I have asked this question before but it didn’t work I draw average cartoons I want to know if there is any way at all to progress from cartoons to realism and again to anime or just straight to anime quickly or slowly it doesn’t matter I just want to learn do I have to learn to draw realistically before I can draw anime really good?

Best answer:

Answer by thundybear
Unfortunately, yes. To be able to draw manga and anime style, you first have to know realism, which is what anime style is based off of.

The best way to do this is to look at photos and try drawing them as you see them.

Learning realism first will make anime a breeze!

Question by Adam K: Do you recommend the Art Institute of Washington for a culinary degree?
I want to open a restaurant and was wondering if you recommend any culinary schools in DC or should I just not bother with culinary school. I am not sure if going to a school like Art Institute of Washington or Stratford University will be a waste of time and money or not. Do you recommend a school/program.

Best answer:

Answer by NiceOne
Well, I certainly would not recommend the Art Institute of Washington for a CULINARY career. The Art Institute teaches visual arts, not cooking. ;-)

But you probably meant to ask about the Culinary Insitute of Washington. The son of a good friend attended there, and he is earning his living as a chef (at a country club, in his case), so he thinks the training and skills he developed there were good.

Unfortunately, that is not the whole answer, because I think you need to ask yourself a question first: Do you really want to work in a restaurant? The hours are a killer. You have to be working in the evenings and on weekends, because that’s when people go out to eat. Unfortunately for you, it’s also the time when *you* would like to be going out, not necessarily to a restaurant. And the pay is not great, especially at first. So this has to be a labor of love. If you really want to learn to cook imaginatively, a good cooking school is the way to do that. But the desire has to be inside you–no one, and no school–can put it there.

Even if you want to work in a restaurant, you also should think about what you want to do. Is cooking the whole point? If so, then a cooking school, whether the Culinary Instute of Washington or some other place, is definitely the way to go. But if you could be happy running the business of a restaurant–working the front of the house, for example–then you should seriously think of a program in hotel and restaurant management. The best known, and probably the actual best of these, is the one at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Another excellent program is at Johnson and Wales college in Rhode Island. Johnson and Wales is much easier to get into than Cornell. And there are plenty of other good programs around the country.

On the other hand, if you want to cook, there is little question that the most famous cooking school in the country, and one of the best in the world, is the Culinary Institute of America (known by its initials as “the CIA”). The training there is pretty much without equal. Most of the other culinary schools, including the Culinary Insitute of Washington, pattern their names on the original CIA.

You have a lot of thinking to do, so I am also going to suggest a book for you to look at that might help you decide. In “The Making of a Chef: Mastering Heat at the Culinary Institute,” the author, Michael Ruhlman, describes what it was like for him to go through the CIA training program. Actually, he only stayed for part of the program, because he is a writer, not a chef, but reading the book will give you some idea of what you would be doing and help you figure out if it is what you want. I know that some libraries in the Washington area have this book, or you can get it in paperback from Amazon.

Good luck!!

Not so confidential… Dr McNinja’s new patient admitting forms! Not real but made up by moi (with some maladies drawn from the webcomic and the twisted minds of friends) and filled in by the nice people we met at Fan Expo who wanted a ninja doctor. Clearly there is a demand for this sort of thing, so ninjas, go to med school.
Please, View large on black for your hilarious viewing pleasure. And do let me know if you’re exhibiting any of these symptoms. (Not because I’m medically trained… just because.)

I think there should be one on Nickelodeon. I want a SpongeBob and Sonic crossover.

Sonic X SpongeBob? Now that would be a little…catastrophic. XD

What I’m waiting for is a new Sonic X season; sure, it’s based on the games, but anime makes everything better :D

I don’t think there are any plans for a new StH series as of now, but who knows?

Question by marshmeryll: What tools do you need when drawing manga?
What do anime artists use when drawing their manga (whether digitally or by using pen and paper).
What are those inking tools do they use? And what are the best brands you could recommend?

And also, do they still use pen and paper or did they start drawing manga using the computer?
****manga artist is what i meant

Best answer:

Answer by TheAphtermath
Most Mangaka have started using computers. professionals recommend Manga Studio EX, but for beginners Manga Studio Debut should be fine. It’s basically like photoshop only specifically for creating Manga. You can have multiple layers, for example a layer of what you’ve sketched, a layer of skin tone, shadows, darker shadows, hair, highlights on the hair. It’s very detailed. Also it allows you to break up the page anyway you want. There’s a huge number of toning tools on the program you can use, cross hatching effects, shadows, also common backgrounds and designs. Instead of Manga Studio some use TOKYOPOP’s Manga Creator, but if you read reviews Manga Studio crashes less.

With the program it’s easiest to get a pen tablet, that allows you to draw with a “pen” onto a digital board and directly into the program. Wacom and Genius are two brand names. This tool allows you to hand draw your artwork and also have it immediately on the computer.

Some Mangaka still do use the original drawing and toning techniques, but they are time consuming and expensive, so it’s mostly been phased out.

Question by Nicolas: Should I cosplay the Doctor (Doctor Who) if…?
…I haven’t watched many episodes of the tv show? I want to cosplay the eleventh Doctor but I’m scared about people asking me things about him. I know he likes fish fingers and custard, the tardis is what he uses to travel in time, I know about the weeping angels, he hates pears (I think), he regenerates, he has a sonic screwdriver, he thinks bow-ties are cool, and some other things. So, what do you think? Should I cosplay him?

Best answer:

Answer by gracel313
Hi. You quite a few things about the 11th doctor; however, I think if you dress like him, people will assume you know more. If they start asking you about Amy and Rory, the Pandorica, River Song, etc, what are you going to say?? It’s up to you, but I would stick with something you know more about.
